Back in the 18th century land and moneys were left for the benefit of the poor of Ashton Keynes and up to the early 1970's money accruing was distributed to the poor of the village by way of coal delivered to the needy.
During the 1970’s much of the land owned and let by the Charity was found to be gravel bearing and with the assistance of The Charity Commission these lands were sold for gravel extraction. The proceeds of these sales were invested in Charitable Bonds as a permanent investment for the Charity; with the proceeds being distributed in line with The Charity Commission scheme.
Under the Commissions scheme, the Charity assists apprentices and students with a grant towards tools etc. and also a gift to pensioners at Christmas providing that all recipients live in Ashton Keynes.
